Working Not Begging

I wonder how many people threw some money into this man's cup yesterday morning on Tooley Street. Kind souls. I almost did, but then changed my mind.


It's not because i'm a cheapskate. I'd fumbled in my pocket and picked out the right change. It was at the point when i was drawing back my right arm to flight the change nicely into the receptacle that i clocked the reality of the situation, and it dawned on me that a handy man drilling a nail into the pavement might not appreciate being pelted with coppers at seven thirty in the morning.
